Which Personae in you is running your Real Estate Business?

Posted by Key Yessaad on June 20, 2013 at 10:30 AM Comments comments ()

Michael Gerber shares in his book, The E-Myth Revisited, that each Business person who goes on to open a Business is made up of three (3) personas: The Entrepreneur, The Manager, and The Technician.

Most of you already understand the Entrepreneur and the Manager; The Technician is the trade that you have; for example you are a Baker who decides to open a Bakery – the technician in you knows everything about being a baker and has years of experience in it. The equivalent in Real Estate is an agent who goes on to open a Real Estate Brokerage.

Michael shares this nugget of truth: Every person who goes into business for themselves is actually three-people-in-one: The Entrepreneur, The Manager, and the Technician. The Problem of running the business becomes compounded when each personality wants to be the boss – but none of them wants to have a boss! Ponder that thought.

The Skills of your Trade are not the same as the Talents of Running a Business

Posted by Kevin Ahearn on June 20, 2013 at 12:20 AM Comments comments ()

The skills of a particular trade help you develop the technician within; if you spend 3 years at a technical school learning the trade of becoming an Electrician, then you hope to get a job working for a business that offers those skills – that schooling does not prepare you to run a business that offers electric repairs and installation.

Entrepreneurs start facing challenges when they confuse their Technical Skill with the Running of a Business that offers those Technical Skills. Being a good Real Estate Agent with the skills of helping Buyers and Sellers does not automatically graduate one to running a Real Estate Brokerage. You must bring a Business Mindset to your Business and expand your skills past your trade technical skills.

Michael Gerber, in his book the E-Myth Revisited, calls this confusion a Fatal Assumption; and he writes it this way: ‘The Fatal Assumption that many Small Business Owners commit is: if you understand the technical work of a business, you understand a business that does that technical work.’

Overcoming Challenges is easier when you know what to do

Today we jump into session 5 of our Real Estate Training Program and this quote from Anthony Greenbank sets the tone: “To live through an impossible situation, you don’t need the reflexes of a Grand Prix driver, the muscles of a Hercules, or the mind of an Einstein. You simply need to know what to do.”

Kevin will start part I of of Prioritized Proactive Prospecting with the Power of the Open House in Prospecting, and I will open our Agents’ minds to the Psychology of Search Engines and the proper thinking required to become a successful Internet Marketer with proper Search Engine Optimization Results.

The value of traditional Marketing is no longer as powerful as when it is intertwined with Inbound Marketing, and Search plays a big role – in essence our new breed of Real Estate Professionals must learn to get to Search Engines before they can build the proper bridge of working with their Real Estate Buyers and Sellers.

The Daily Mundane and Tedious Activities in your Business, those you undertake with Attention and Intention will reveal your true passion for succeeding as an entrepreneur versus counting the hours as a hired help. Getting through the day is not a Goal; it will happen whether you choose to demand form it your best, or linger until the hours vanish. There is one simple question you must confront daily if you wish to truly live the successful life of an entrepreneur: ‘Am I doing today what you know I am supposed to be doing?’ I challenge you to confront that question with courage; I will also remark that some of the success that may have evaded you was less because you don’t know what to do, and more because you did not do what deep down you know was important. So go for it; trust not only that you know what you need to do - trust that you know each step in the ladder of your success – then start climbing it!
